Samantha Browne

Samantha Browne - Chief (Legislative, Rulemaking, Policy, External Affairs, Agency/Nonprofit/Private Partnerships, Acquisition Program); 850-245-2076

Samantha started her career with the department in May 1994 as an OPS Planner with the Office of Greenways and Trails. Over the years she has worked with every aspect of the office including the greenways and trails planning efforts, grant development, contract management, marketing and communications, legislative review and budget requests, acquisition projects and managing councils.

Now, having come full circle with OGT, she has the responsibility of not only steering the ship, but watching the up and coming leaders of the program develop and thrive.



Britney-MooreBritney Mulholland (Moore) - Assistant Chief; 850-245-2061

Britney grew up in the North Florida Area, providing for extensive knowledge of her dedicated region. Britney has worked for Florida’s award-winning state park system for several years. She attended Florida State University where she studied Geography and Environmental Studies.

As a member of the Junior League of Tallahassee, Britney has found a way to nourish her love of volunteering in the community. She frequently explores Florida’s incredible recreational opportunities, whether it be participating in biking and kayaking events or taking her dogs on hikes. So, look for her in your area on the weekends.

Katie Bernier

Katie White (Bernier) - Greenways and Trails Coordination/South & Central Region, Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) coordination; 863-314-8439 (working out of Highlands Hammock State Park).

Katie grew up in Lake Wales, spending many weekends exploring nearby state parks which helped to cultivate her love for Florida’s many outdoor recreation opportunities. Katie attended Florida State University and completed her bachelor’s degree in Classical Civilizations and recently completed a master’s degree in Biodiversity and Conservation at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

Katie’s prior experience includes working as a Forest Ranger for the Florida Forest Service and serving as an AmeriCorps Member with the Florida State Parks. In her free time, Katie loves traveling, hiking and fishing. She also enjoys checking out all of the greenways and trails that are in her region.



Justin BaldwinJustin Baldwin - Greenways and Trails Coordination/North Region; 850-245-2063

Justin received his master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University and his bachelor’s degree in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from the University of Tennessee.

Justin enjoys getting outside whenever he can. This includes everything from solo trail running adventures, paddling trips, and camping with friends and family. He is also an active transportation advocate who doesn’t use a personal vehicle to get to work.

He lives with his wife and two kids in Tallahassee.


Anna Hopkins- Greenways and Trails Coordination/Central Region; 850-245-3069

Anna grew up on a small farm in central Indiana where she showed and raised Shetland sheep with her family. Before moving to Tallahassee in July 2020, she graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management and minors in Environmental Management and Studio Art. Anna started at DEP early in 2021 as the Event Coordinator at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park where she managed weddings, educational programs, fundraisers, and special events before joining the Office of Greenways and Trails. In her free time, she enjoys serving as a board member for Keep Tallahassee Beautiful, documenting her trips to Florida State Parks, and photographing abandoned spaces.



Kari Baasch

Kari Baasch- Office of Greenways and Trails Graphic Designer, Web Designer; 850-245-3071

Kari grew up in rural North Florida, spending all her free time in the great outdoors. Kari graduated from Florida State University in 2018, with a bachelor’s degree in Editing, Writing and Media and a minor in Information Technologies, and has worked for DEP since 2019.

Kari grew up farming and organic gardening with her father, and still finds herself spending all her free time outdoors, kayaking down the Wacissa river, hiking through our beautiful Florida forests, and birdwatching whenever she can. She also finds delight in photography, writing poetry, and still continues to garden.



Doug AldersonDoug Alderson- Outdoor Recreation Specialist, Florida Paddling Trails and website coordination; 850-245-2078

After a two-year hiatus, Doug is back with OGT part-time to help with paddling trails and outdoor recreation planning. Doug spent most of his life in North Florida and enjoys kayaking, hiking, biking, gardening, writing and outdoor photography. Doug’s prior work includes working as a staff naturalist and summer camp director for the Tallahassee Museum and as an associate editor for Florida Wildlife Magazine. For OGT, he helped to establish the Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail along with other state designated paddling trails and he served as an assistant bureau chief for several years.

Doug is the author of several published books about Florida’s outdoors, culture and history and lives south of Tallahassee with his wife, Cyndi. They have one adult daughter, Cheyenne, who is an elementary school teacher.



Casey Carron- Administrative Support; 850-245-2053

Casey has lived in Tallahassee for most of her life. She attended FSU and majored in Civil Engineering. While taking classes, she worked as an intern at a civil engineering firm. After three years in the program, however, she realized engineering just wasn’t for her, and changed her major to Sociology, though she did earn a minor in physics. After college, Casey had a son named Johnny. Casey has become his advocate, as his autism has caused him to have little to no functional speech. Casey supports Special Education and Individualized Education Plans given to students with disabilities.

Casey works with OGT and monitors their budget, handles invoices, submits speaking requests and processes travel. In her free time, Casey enjoys exercising, reading and spending time with her son.
