South District SW Florida Quick Links

The natural environment is the lifeblood of our state's economy; the reason it is so beautiful. The Department of Environmental Protection wants to work with you to protect, conserve and manage Florida's environment and valuable natural resources.  The DEP's South District focuses on issues facing this region and state, ranging from mangroves to hazardous waste.  The South District always welcomes public input.  The District is responsible for the following county areas:  Charlotte, Collier, Desoto, Highlands, Hendry, Glades, Lee, Monroe and Sarasota.

Please note: Florida has a very broad public records law.  Most written communications to or from state officials regarding state business are public records available to the public and media upon request. Your E-mail communication may therefore be subject to public disclosure.

ELECTRONIC CORRESPONDENCE AND SUBMITTALS

South District announces a general "catch all" email box for all electronic correspondence and submittals: SouthDistrict@dep.state.fl.us

This will not eliminate specialized email boxes that are already in place for specific use by our regular customers.  This serves to route correspondence other than that for the specialized mailboxes and for documents for more than one program area.

The capacity for all incoming email is limited to 10MB.  If your submittal is larger in size, then use this email box to request a link to our FTP site where you can download larger files.  The use of electronic correspondence saves processing time and taxpayer dollars.  Please take advantage of this system.  Any questions, comments and concerns may be directed to Lucy Blair at Lucy.Blair@dep.state.fl.us

SOUTH DISTRICT ENCOURAGES PRE-APPLICATION MEETINGS

During the project planning phase, it is a good idea to schedule a pre-application meeting with DEP staff.  The meetings are a chance for the applicant, agent, registered professional and DEP staff to get together and discuss the project.

Most people who schedule and attend a pre-application meeting before submitting the permit application say it was helpful and saved permitting time.  It also increases understanding of the project and requirements for everyone involved.  Contact Terry Cerullo at Terry.Cerullo@dep.state.fl.us or call at 239-344-5647 to arrange a date and time.

ARE YOU READY TO SUBMIT AN ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE PERMIT APPLICATION?

If you are planning to submit an environmental resource permit application please download this check list to assist you in preparing a complete application.  If you need to have additional assistance please call 239-344-5600 and ask to schedule an appointment with one of our permit processors.  --MORE-- [doc]
