DEP Park Police to Host Annual Wekiva River Cleanup

~Cleanup of debris needed to keep Wekiva River beautiful~

LONGWOOD – As part of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Easy As One initiative the Division of Law Enforcement’s Florida Park Police Central District will host a cleanup event at Wekiva River in Longwood on Friday, October 8, 2010. Teams will collect debris, such as bottles, cans and plastic bags, along the Wekiva River that were improperly disposed of to restore the river to its beautiful and natural state.

Assisting the Florida Park Police with cleanup activities include DEP’s Division of Recreation and Parks, dive teams from the Seminole and Orange County Sheriff’s Offices and Wekiva Island, a livery service on the Wekiva River.

The event will begin:

October 8, 2010
9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Wekiva Island Staging Area
1014 Miami Springs Road
Longwood, FL
