Sustainable Initiatives are voluntary, non-regulatory
programs within the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)
that assist Florida industry and citizens in protecting
Florida’s environment. The goal of the Sustainable
Initiatives programs is to promote sustainability in Florida
businesses, schools and homes. Sustainability is meeting the
needs of the present population without compromising the
ability of future populations to meet its needs. Sustainable
Initiatives Programs are the Florida Green Lodging
Program, the Florida
Clean Marina Program and the Clean Vessel Act
Grant Program.

Go Green in 2013
Make a New Year’s resolution that includes small changes to
help protect the environment and save you money.
- Ditch the water bottle and go with a reusable stainless
steel bottle.
- Take reusable shopping bags, not only to the grocery
store, but to any place you shop.
- Install a digital thermostat, and set it to 68 degrees
in the winter and 78 degrees in the summer.
- Switch to CFLs, each one uses one-fourth of a standard
light bulb.
