Training Opportunities

Welcome to the Florida Department of Environmental Protections Human Resource and Development Training page, our one stop shop for all your training needs. Here you will be able to view and register for classroom and online training facilitated through the Division of Administrative Services.

 We are pleased to announce the roll out of our new Learning Management System, Sumtotal’s Maestro (quick fact-means teacher in Italian & Spanish), which will replace our old training site, Skillport. The Maestro LMS was developed by Sumtotal, a subsidiary Skillsoft eLearning Systems, and offers a rich and comprehensive user portal that provides access to both instructor led and online (asynchronous) training.  *Online content is provided by Skillsoft and hosted on Maestro, Sumtotal's Learning Management System (LMS).

Users will still be able to take all the online training courses that were available via Skillport, including the Books 24x7 content, and additionally, they will be able to register for both online (webinar) and in-class instructor led trainings. 

During our transition phase, we ask that if you cannot find a course you would like to take listed in Maestro, that you please let us know and we will be glad to add it for you. Please fill out the following course request information and submit it to training@dep.state.fl.us.

You will also use the Maestro portal to access your required employee training. All NEW FDEP employees are required to complete a set of mandatory trainings within 30 days of hire. The following courses are required for all NEW FDEP employees:

  • FTE New Employee Orientation (for FTE employees only)- Required Upon Hiring
  • OPS New Employee Orientation (for OPS employees only)- Required Upon Hiring
  • Workplace Harassment Prevention for Employees - Required Upon Hiring
  • Workplace Diversity Awareness - Required Upon Hiring
  • DEP Civil Rights - Required Upon Hiring
  • DEP Code of Ethics - Required Upon Hiring
  • DEP Public Records - Required Upon Hiring
  • Information Security Awareness - Required Upon Hiring

All existing employees must complete an annual combo refresher course, FDEP Combo Refresher Course, which is available for you to take via Maestro. * For instructions on how to log into Maestro for the first time please visit our intranet training page.

The Combo CANNOT be taken in place of the individual courses listed as being required upon hiring. You MUST complete the full version of the courses list above BEFORE you take the Combo. If you are a new employee who was hired after June 30, 2016, you are exempt for the Nov. 15, 2016, through Jan. 23, 2017, designated annual training compliance period. Employees hired after June 30, 2016, will be required to take the training during the 2017 compliance period of November 15, 2017 through January 23, 2018.

 You may also click on the Online Training  to view the online classes.  Most online classes mirror the topics covered in our classroom training. Most of the online courses are free of charge and can be taken at any time.
